Statement on Evidence-Based Programs and the Anger Management Institute
" The Anger Management Institute/CounselCare credentialing program is an evidence-based approach to training individuals in effective methods of doing anger management intervention.
The Anger Institute’s core components are designed to respond to what has been established in a meta-analysis of effective programs as the most effective interventions (See research in “Understanding Anger Disorders”, DiGiuseppe & Tafrate, 2007). These components include understanding and skill building around cognitive restructuring of anger responses, relaxation training, psycho-educational training, building awareness and skills in social and emotional intelligence areas, understanding of provocation, inoculation and preparation for anger triggers, and group support. The Anger Institute builds skills and awareness in all of these key components.

The Anger Institute is also involved in an ongoing process of gathering data from pre- and post- intervention evaluations using the NAS-PI, created by Novaco, where the multiple dimensions of the construct of anger is assessed. The ongoing evidence-based evaluation process has resulted in statistically significant support for the efficacy of the anger management program taught by the Anger Institute and its trained providers. Evidence gathering is ongoing, and the focus is on gathering evidence, analyzing statistical results, factoring out what is consistently correlated with successful outcomes, and implementing changes that are most effective. While the sample size (n) is not large at this point, ongoing results indicate a trend of positive outcomes with the model developed by the Anger Institute. The Anger Institute is committed to the continuation of evidence gathering and as the sample size grows the expectation is that the positive results will be more robust."
